The Lesson from Trolley Square?
Nancy Perkins over at the Deseret Morning News had an interesting tidbit about Utah Attorney General Mark Shurtleff addressing a Republican meeting in Washington County over the weekend. See it here.

Shurtleff took some obligatory shots at Democratic Rep. Jim Matheson for voting for a House resolution opposing President Bush's plan to add 21,500 troops in Iraq. But the AG took some liberties with, well, the facts.

"This Democratic resolution in the House and Senate right now condemns our president and our soldiers," Shurtleff said.

Here's what the resolution approved by the House actually says:

"(1) Congress and the American people will continue to support and protect the members of the United States Armed Forces who are serving or who have served bravely and honorably in Iraq; and

(2) Congress disapproves of the decision of President George W. Bush announced on January 10, 2007, to deploy more than 20,000 additional United States combat troops to Iraq."

But here is the oddest part of Shurtleff's speech:

"If nothing else, when we think of what happened at Trolley Square, it shows us we have to fight a war here (at home), too," he said.

We seriously doubt Shurtleff was suggesting the shooting rampage at Trolley Square was a terrorist attack. "

So what "war," exactly was the AG referring to? Beats us.

mentioning the war the A.G. was "The war on crime", a war we are also losing. It just so happens that a Republican,Mark Shurtleff, is in charge of fighting THAT war. I guess the motto is,if you are fighting a war, don't put a Republican politician in charge IF YOU WANT TO WIN.

Oh pleeeze...Everybody except kingrook knows that crime rates are going down everywhere. And, it's old news that Shurtleff is no water boy for the GOP. Remeber the anti-gay constitutional ammendment he opposed? Believe me, a lot of Democrats in Utah like Shurtleff because he makes decisions based on logic not political consequences. If the ever-present Rebuplican majority was made up of more people like Shurtleff, we'd be better off.

Do you mean incompetent? Fat? or just plain unqualified for the job?Oh wait... I forgot about Shurtleff looooong career in law enforcement and in fighting crime... oh ya- HE HAS NONE! The ONLY reason crime has fallen is because of the programs initiated by Shurtleff's predessesors. He has done nothing of consequence on his own to lower crime rates. He is a politician- not a law enforcement officer. The only reason he is in that office is because of the R after his name. Not because of anything else.

If Republicanista thinks we are winning the war on crime, let him move to Rose Park or certain areas in West Valley. He still hasn't got a handle on Internet crime either & there are still as many meth makers & dealers out there as before.
