It turns out he was the lucky one.

Valentine and his wife were skiing at Deer Valley over the weekend when she took a nasty spill at the top of one of the runs, breaking her shoulder. Ski patrol came to her aid, strapped her onto the sled and started towing her down the mountain.
Valentine skied behind, trying to keep up down the black diamond run, but took a spill trying to make a turn and caught a pole in the eye.
It's sore, he says, but there's no vision loss and it will heal. His wife is in a sling while her arm heals.
