David Leavitt, who was given the heave-ho at the state GOP Convention Saturday, issued a press release today to say he was standing by his decision to endorse Rep. Chris Cannon.
Well, OK. . . . We didn't know there was a question but, whatever.
The interesting thing, though, about the statement is the language used by the little brother of former Gov. Mike Leavitt to seemingly backhand both his former rivals -- Cannon and Jason Chaffetz -- with a single motion.
He starts off the statement by saying he kept his campaign focused on the need for statesmanship and civility.
Then he repeats his oft-made claim during the campaign that "Of course, I believe
there needs to be a change in Congress." Then the kicker: "However, after ten months of active campaigning with Jason Chaffetz, I came to the firm belief that Mr. Chaffetz
would be a worse choice than Mr. Cannon."
So instead of saying Cannon is the better choice, he frames it the other way.
Now, that's civility.

What a schmuck. I'm glad he got his ass kicked.
Looks like little Leavitt isn't as politically astute as brother Mikey.
David Leavitt was just talk. His actions at convention showed that he is no statesman.
We don't need more statesmen in Congress. We just need fewer Congressmen (or at least have them spend less time being Congressmen).
Go, Jason!! I was at the convention - "statesmanship" went out the window when Mr Leavitt joined ranks with Cannon to break the convention rules. He was my second choice, but now I'm glad I didn't have to "go there". I'm excited to see Jason take this into the primay on June 24th. He has an awesome grassroots movement going on.
I think Leavitt's press release was not to confirm his endorsement of Cannon, but to explain that there were no rules broken during his demonstration at the State Convention.
They did break the rules. The chair said now campaigning on the floor. The rules said that the chair could clarify convention rules, and he did. If they had a problem with the chair's decision they should have gone to a microphone and said so. Instead they just ignored the rules.
