Holy sock!
I can't be sure of the thought process at work here, but apparently someone thought it would be a good idea to make a monkey version of Barack Obama: http://www.thesockobama.com

Also, the folks behind this absolutely 100 percent brilliant and flawless idea are David and Elizabeth Lawson of West Jordan.

Now I realize that Utah never has been the most racially aware or diverse place. The Washington Post spent a lot of time exploring Utah's backward race relations. And, of course, the Lawsons are from West Jordan, the stomping grounds of Sen. Chris Buttars, R-Black Baby.

But really?!? Nobody stopped to think, "Hey, this might be offensive on about a million different levels"?

Kudos, Lawsons, for doing Utah proud yet again!

I have no plans to vote for Obama, but this is just SO offensive. I'd be expecting a law suit if I were them. For shame.

The Tribune's unfunny cartoonist portrays President Bush as a chimpanzee.

But I guess it's OK since Bush is white.

I am rarely supprised by how insensitive Utah Republicans can be about people who happen to be different than the majority, but this is one of the most disgusting examples of intolerance I have ever seen.

As I stated on the other Trib story, I wouldn't be that shocked if they genuinely had no idea that this would be offensive. I've come across plenty of people in Utah who are pretty ignorant as far as the history of race-relations goes in this country. During my college days (at UVSC, if anyone's wondering), I wrote a paper about blackface. I'd say I had to explain what blackface was to about 2/3rds of the people I talked to my paper about.

Oh, and I meant to say that that's no excuse. If people who really are that ignorant about the history of racism are to be taught a lesson, a good public flogging like this should do the trick.

what happened to warchol?

This is pretty insensitive. It makes me wonder how many they've sold.

Are the Lawsons the same pedophiles that made Frank Laine Hall's sock puppet?

Mormons are a bunch of anti christs. How do you take a Jewish Jesus and turn him into a white Nazi?

They have supposedly pulled out of production, according to their website - but still have the offensive picture of the doll up
