Utah Democrats had an unexpected star sighting at their morning breakfast.
Former University of Utah basketball star Andre Miller stopped by for some food and to snag a coveted pass to get into Invesco Field for Barack Obama's big speech.
Miller, who now plays for the NBA's Philadelphia 76ers and is a resident of Denver, chatted with people he stays in contact with at the U. to find where the state delegation was staying. Utah Democratic Party Chairman Wayne Holland was more than happy to hand over a community credential to the basketball star.
"This is big time. It is a historical moment," Miller said.
He generally doesn't follow politics, but Miller said he is supporting Obama, the first African American presidential nominee.
With the country facing two wars and an economic downturn, Miller is impressed that a politican like Obama would want to take the lead.
"For someone like that to step out and take that challenge, that is something to be proud of," he said.
It probably doesn't hurt that Obama is a big time basketball fan.
