Hot and fresh
The motto of the mighty Utah County Republican Party is "Leadership that delivers."

Just one question -- can I get a large with Italian sausage and mushrooms?

If not, Democrat RaDene Hatfield just got a big boost in her challenge of 4-term incumbent Sen. Curt Bramble in the state Senate District 16 race.

Hatfield recently recruited Anna, an eloquent blogger better known as "pizza girl," to work on her campaign against Bramble.

On her new political blog, voteforradene.blogspot.com -- separate from her personal musings on cartoonbrickwall.blogspot.com -- Anna lays it out: "I deliver pizza. I know nothing about politics. But I'm learning."

No kidding.

Her first brush with politics occurred last month at Bramble's Provo house as she dropped off the family's dinner. There she discovered that all men are created equal, but some are more equal than others.

Her captivating blog about the misadventure -- based on Bramble's refusal to accept the company's rule against personal checks -- soon rocketed around the blogosphere and made pizza girl famous in TV, radio and newspaper stories.

The controversy has already paid off for Hatfield in a small but concrete way.

"I got two contributions as a direct result of pizzagate," Hatfield said. One came from Georgia, the other from Arizona. "Not a ton of money, but enough to realize that people are paying attention to this."

And now she's signed pizza girl up for the campaign. Hatfield is happy but also a bit wary.'
"It's my prayer that politics doesn't ruin or repel her. It's too important that people like Anna see that they can make a difference."

Tribune's Bob Barr Blackout Watch: The Libertarian Party nominated Bob Barr as its presidential candidate 106 days ago, but the Salt Lake Tribune has yet to inform its print edition readers of his candidacy.

The Tribune's administrators are banning posters who note this fact to the TribTalk forums or comments sections of SLTRIB.COM.

Barr is now on 43 state ballots across the United States, and is on track to be on 48 ballots.

Nationwide polls show Barr receiving support from about six percent voters (or about 1 in 20 American voters), and between 8-11 percent support in some battleground states.

Only a handful of other presidential candidates can claim the same thing.

The CEO of MediaNews (which owns the Tribune), Dean Singleton, was a significant financial supporter of Republican U.S. President George W. Bush.

LOL! I’ve seen over and over again how Bramble is more concerned about bullying than serving. I am so relieved that we finally have a candidate of the caliber of RaDene Hatfield to oppose him. The more I learn about her, the more I like. According to her website, RaDene.com, she’s has a Master’s in public policy and a lifetime record of self-less service. Being from Utah County, she seems moderate and reasonable so I’m not worried about the D beside her name. After all, she’s married to a Republican so she knows how to respect, love and work with people of the other party. I hope I’m not the only Republican willing to vote for an impressive Utah County Dem. We don’t need to re-elect a bully who in my view, is a little stuck on himself. Sorry, I know it’s harsh but I’ve seen nothing to suggest otherwise.

Taking the blame

Cathy actually wrote the post Monday night. I didn't get it posted until today. So the blame for lagging belongs to me.
