Pre-game smack: Provo officials rise and shout
There's more riding on Saturday's BYU-Utah game than just a share of the Mountain West Conference championship or even a possible BCS berth.

It also could determine which city's governing body will have to give a command performance of a school fight song.

"When BYU beats Utah," a confident Provo Municipal Council Vice Chairman George Stewart said Tuesday, "The Salt Lake City Council will have to come down to our meeting and sing the Cougar fight song."

And if Bronco Mendenhall's boys can't deliver? The Provo council will sing "Utah Man" in the Salt Lake City Council chambers.
But Provo officials are so confident that they're not even bothering to learn the Utah fight song.

"We're planning on where they are going to stand, and ask them to wear blue," boasted Terry Ann Harward, the council's executive director.

"I'll even bring the humble pie," added Councilman Steve Turley.

"Make sure it's blueberry," Councilwoman Sherrie Hall Everett added.

Brad Patterson, Provo's bond counsel, said he hopes the Cougars win, but was dismayed that former Salt Lake City Mayor Rocky Anderson won't be forced to musically prostrate himself before the Provo body since he's no longer in office.

"We have subpoena powers," Turley assured Patterson.

Wayne Parker, Provo's chief administrative officer, said Mayor Lewis Billings is still working out a challenge with his Salt Lake City counterpart, Ralph Becker.
