Hatch isn't talking about his role in getting Forte, who was arrested with 31 pounds of liquid cocaine with a street value of $1.4 million, out of the joint.
But the New York Post, reports that Simon, whom Forte called "Mama C," had high praise for Utah's senior senator.
Simon told the Post that she and Hatch formed a friendship over their love of music. Simon later recorded a Hatch tune, "Are You Lonely Here With Me?"
Hatch helped get Forte moved to a federal prison in Fort Dix, N.J., closer to his mother, and arranged for him to have his guitar in the pokey.
Simon said that Hatch was "key" in getting the president to act.
"[Hatch] is not just a Republican but also a great human being," she said. "He couldn't have been more terrific during this entire process. He was always very impressed with everything that I brought to his attention regarding John."
Hatch issued a statement about how his constituents support tough drug sentences, but in this case he agreed with lawyers who didn't think Forte's 14-year minimum mandatory sentence was just.

Didn't Hatch support mandatory minimums for drug offenses?
As long as Hatch is playing hero, then get the sentence of Weldon Angelos commuted (54 years federal minimum mandatory for selling a couple oz. of weed - insane).
If Hatch did this simply because Forte is a musician, then that's wrong.
Yes, ditch the mandatory minumums! Then politicians will not be able to line up and save the famous addicts in our society.
