Team of Rivals
Hopefully you caught the stories of the last two days about Attorney General Mark Shurtleff's questionable letter using state letterhead to endorse DigitalBridge, an Orem company that produces a technology his office doesn't use, just 11 days after the company gave him a hefty $10,000 contribution.

(Read them here and here.)

In Cathy McCitrick's story today, Joe Demma, the chief of staff to Lt. Gov. Gary Herbert, said that "If you're engaging the letterhead for purposes other than official state business, that's where we take a closer look."

He said the LG's office is looking at the Shurtleff case to see if it violates rules on using the Utah seal.

I don't want to read too much into this, but it is possible . . . consider this.

In four years, the governor's office will be open. Herbert ran for it before, then
settled for Huntsman's No. 2. Shurtleff is the other Republican, having been elected to a statewide office, with a very good shot at the seat if he wants it, health permitting.

With other contenders taking big hits to their prospects recently (Speaker Greg Curtis losing his election, Senate President John Valentine losing his leadership spot) the two most likely combatants in 2012 look to be Herbert and Shurtleff.

Keep a close eye on the dynamic between the two offices over the next few years.

Joe Demma is Utah's Karl Rove.

That viper needs a close eye kept on him.

Karl Rove? Anon, I know your trying to rip Demma, but that is a great compliment to most people in Utah. Love or hate rove the dude was a master of politics.

I would say demma is more like lewenski and slept his way to the top. I heard short people are drawn to each other.

That the local GOP fascisti exalt Karl Rove-wannabes like Joe Demma, Jeff Hartley, and Kyle Sampson illustrates their corruption.

Not to worry ... in less than 60 days, they'll have their chance to join Jack Abramoff and others as martyrs for the Republican cause.

It's so great that Enid Greene came on here to bash some people.
