We Listen (So You Don't Have To) -- Our Schools Is Failing
This week, a very special Red Meat Radio, where I attempt to embrace technology by listening in on the podcast here instead of the live broadcast (and fail) and Rep. Greg Hughes and Sen. Howard Stephenson attempt to salute our founding
fathers (and fail so spectacularly that John Adams climbed from the grave to haunt them).

- This is, Stephenson says, a special "Howard-Hughes edition" of Red Meat Radio. (Get it. He's Howard, the other guy is Hughes. This explains the agoraphobia, mysophobia and jars of urine.) The plan is to focus on illegal immigration (easily my least favorite topic du jour.)

- Before getting to business, the hosts explain that callers are welcome, but should be prepared to answer a rudimentary civics question. It's a way, Hughes explains, to screen out the morons. For example, Stephenson asks, "Who is the second President of the United States?"

Ooh. Ooh. I know. Here's a hint.

There's an awkward exchange before Hughes answers: "Thomas Jefferson." (No. No. No. No. No! But it answers a lot of questions I've had about the callers who get on the air. Surely Stephenson will set him straight.)

"That's right," says Howard.

FAIL! (Miserably.)

I should point out that Hughes and Stephenson are two of the most strident and outspoken critics of Utah's public education system.

At this point, heading into the first commercial break, the podcast quits. It's just as well. It's way too nice outside to be subjected to this today.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could screen out all the morons in our state government?
