No surprise it was voted down, as we all know conference officials are notoriously slow when it comes to making these kinds of decisions. Two of the biggest opponents were commissioners from the Big Ten and Pac-10 who feared their traditional matchup in the Rose Bowl would be endangered. Really, they should let go of their traditional ties considering the parade has more excitement surrounding it than the game itself recently.
The other sticking point was adding yet another game would lengthen the season for the two teams involved.
Personally, I'd love to see a plus-one format. At the very least I wish the BCS bowls would use the rankings to determine their matchups regardless of conference so we had a No. 1 vs. No. 2, No. 3 vs. No. 4, etc. At least that way we could make some comparisons between the outcomes. We couldn't really do that last season, not with all the mismatches and blowouts. I know this would require the Rose Bowl to give up its precious ties, but really, if the Rose wants to be a part of the BCS it ought to play well with others.
