Football: Spring game QBs
The absence of Corbin Louks for Saturday's Red-White game is going to be a bummer for fans, who probably were anticipating seeing him get a lot of snaps while Brian Johnson continues to rehab his surgically repaired shoulder.

Johnson's accuracy, especially on deep throws, shows the most weakness from the injury/surgery. I don't know how many snaps he is going to get on Saturday, but fans should expect to see a lot of Chad Manis and DeVonte Christopher with Louks out and Johnson still healing.

I'm assuming Manis will run the second team offense most of the time. At 6-5, 225-pounds he is a big guy and slower than the other quarterbacks so he gives the Utes a little different look. I doubt, however, we're going to see much of that look once the season starts. Saturday might be his best day to impress the coaches.

As for Utethunder's question regarding the development of the offense vs. the defense, I'd say it isn't surprising the defense is further along in the spring and making more of an impact. Many key players are back, especially in the secondary, and most of the players getting over injuries and who are being protected quite a bit are on the offensive side of the ball.

The Utes are thin at defensive tackle and it's going to be interesting to see how the linebackers develop. I loved how Stevenson Sylvester played last year, but I know the Utes are expecting a ton out of Mo Neal too and have really been pushing him hard in the spring to see how he handles the attention. The linebacker battles could be interesting once fall practice starts.

Lya,
Just established my account as I wanted to thank you for your work regarding Utah Football. As a fan now living in Phoenix I very much appreciate the insights in depth commentary, and providing information about the program in the off season. When I first noticed your blog I didn't bother to read it as I noted you were female and thought (mistakenly ) how much could she know about football. After only a couple of reads I realised how wrong I was. Another lesson learned. Again I much enjoy your continued blogging on Ute Football. AZ Utefan

I too, would like to give kudo's to Lya for her excellent coverage of the Utes. I have occasionally peeked on the "team down south's" blog and it is horrible in comparison. Unorganized thoughts all over the place and tidbits that are not press worthy. Thank you for doing such an awesome job keeping us true fans in the loop. My only suggestion would be to seperate the gymnastics and football blogs. I love the Red Rocks, but when I want to read about football, I don't like having to rummage through the different sports teams blogs. GO UTES!

You are again wrong, wrong, wrong bigutefan man. The Potkey Trib blog covering BYU sports is very likely the very best but this Lya person does try hard. It is difficult for her to find interesting things to write about the Utes. Give her a chance.

Your right NAVEN. Here are some of the more fascinating comments that Potkey has posted:

"Most of the players and coaches were on time to practice today. But there was one small problem. The gate was locked."

"After the scrimmage is when the real fun starts. Food will be served from Ruby River Steakhouse and a band will provide entertainment."

"Hall didn't intend to make pun, but it came anyway when describing the alumni presence. It was a good deal for them to come to the fireside last night. That was just a smokin' turnout."

It must be so nice to have such interesting things to write about, riveting! Funny how she doesn't comment on the thugs the b-ball men are married too. But I sure hope there will be another water balloon fight in the dorms this summer to cover.

Boy oh golly gee, Lya's really missing out, NOT.

You are brilliant and I apologize. Your ability to pick out a few words from many thousands of words to prove your point makes you a candidate for the Clinton campaign staff. Go for it!

Isn't that what BYU fans do with a certain scripture from the Bible to prove the validity of the Book of Mormon?

Oh Naven, you give me way too much credit. It actually only took reading a few dozen words to locate interesting tidits. But thanks for the compliment. And you do have some pyschic abilities as I am a Clinton supporter. Amen Utethunder!!! GO UTES!
