Sunday thoughts?
We're all going to experience something a bit unusual here in Salt Lake City with the Jazz and Lakers playing a rare Sunday game to accommodate TV. Jazz owner Larry H. Miller says he won't attend because of his religious beliefs, but evidently a lot of other Utahns don't feel the same way since the game sold out in 15 minutes.

So far with football, we can all be fairly confident the Utes will be playing on Saturdays, with maybe a few Thursday or Friday games too. (The Utes have two games on Thursdays in 2008, against Oregon State and TCU).

However, the chances of a Sunday college game are increasing the more TV becomes in control. For example, Colorado State and Colorado will open the 2008 season on Sunday, Aug. 31 in a game to be televised nationally by Fox Sports Net. Originally the game was scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 30.

So I'm curious, would you attend a Utes' football game if it was held on a Sunday? Do you think it's better for schools to keep a more traditional playing date or is playing on a Sunday worth it to get national coverage?

Gimme your thoughts, let's get a discussion going!

Ah, but Larry might show up and hang out in the hallways at the Arena like he did in the past.

I wouldn't got to a college football game on Sunday, and I'd be mighty pissed if they started scheduling them on Sunday. It's one of the great traditions: Friday night is for the local prep teams, Saturday is for the College games, and Sunday/Monday is for the pros. It is a good system. The Thursday night games don't really screw with things too much, and occasionally it's a game worth watching.

If the Utes were to play on a Sunday, I wouldn't be very happy about it. However, I would still go to the game. I agree with peetie, every level of football has their day to play football and college belongs on Saturdays.

Guys college football wouldn't move to sunday permanently. It would be for the beginning of the season before NFL kicks off.

I would be there for sure.

I think Utah football is already hurting enough for attendance...I think if they scheduled games on Sunday it would only compound that problem, seeing as how a large portion of Utah's fan base is LDS, and Mormon doctrine is pretty specific about keeping the Sabbath day holy. That being said, if Utah scheduled Florida or Michigan for a Sunday game, I'm sure a lot of fans would be willing to make an exception...But excluding religious beliefs, I still think college football fans want to see their team play on Saturday, not Friday, not Tuesday and not Sunday. Isn't that why the MWC got into this whole mess with the mtn. in the first place? So they wouldn't have to play Tuesday night ESPN games? Though the conference has become nearly invisible as a result of signing on with Todd Christensen (ugh!) and Co., at least fans can enjoy their fall Saturday afternoons at the stadium. So I say no to games on Sunday.

If it means not having Todd Christensen cover the games, then I am all for Sunday games!! The dude is horrible and so blue it is ridiculous. Prefer Saturday's for college football but the love the Utes and would support them any day of the week!
