New duds come Thursday
Well finally we're going to get a glimpse at what the Utes will look like when they take the field this season. Utah's new Under Armour uniforms are in and the media will get their first look at them on Thursday morning at 9 a.m. Check our Web site to see how spiffy they are later Thursday.

Utah is entering its 5-year deal with Under Armour after a long relationship with Nike that sometimes left them feeling a little slighted. The Utes are hoping they get better attention and service from Under Armour.

Guess the first test will be to see if all the reds match. That didn't always happen with Nike.

Speaking of new uniforms, Michigan's new adidas uniforms were unveiled today. If you don't want to wait until Aug. 30 to see them, check them out here. I like that the jerseys incorporate some nods to Michigan's history.

Michigan's agreement with adidas is for eight years and will bring the university $7.5 million annually in cash and merchandise. The company is sponsoring all of Michigan's 25 sports, not just football. Utah is a little different with each sport allowed to sign its own agreements with all payments going to the head coaches as part of a perk.

I wish I could tell you what coach Kyle Whittingham is getting from Under Armour, but unfortunately the company is refusing to release its figures out of concern of "unfair competitive injury to sponsor."

Apparently this is a new Under Armour policy that I have been told started with Utah's contract. For comparison's sake, in February Hawaii signed an 8-year, $4.1 million agreement with Under Armour. In 2007 Under Armour signed a 6-year, $10.8 million agreement with South Carolina and in 2005 it signed a $10.6 million, 5-year deal with Auburn.

There is definitely some big money to be had for the big schools, wouldn't you say?

Did a little web surfing this morning to see what other teams are up to in the summer. The Colorado Springs Gazette has an interesting article on the difficulties Air Force has in running its summer workouts. Recently they had just 11 players in summer camp because so many had other military duties to take care of, which obviously are more important.

I would imagine Under Armour will be more of a partner than Nike. It always seemed like Utah would get a uniform design 2-3 years after the Miami's of the world wore them out.

If we could just have the helmets match the uniform I will be happy!
