Johnson airing it out
The Utes prepped for their first scrimmage focusing mainly on specific drills Monday afternoon rather than spending a lot of time in live situations. One guy who handled the passing drills well was Brian Johnson who had no problem finding the corners of the end zone.
"He is making good decisions and is spreading the ball around," Ute coach Kyle Whittingham said.
His effort is drawing rave reviews from teammate Brent Casteel.
"He threw a bomb on a 50-yard rope," he said.
We probably won't see much of Johnson in Tuesday's scrimmage since the new guys are going to get most of the reps.

Thor Salanoa's break was diagnosed as mild, at least I guess that is the best way to put it. He'll be able to return to practice soon wearing a splint, Whittingham said.

Center Tyler Williams, who is losing ground to Zane Taylor for the starting role, slightly sprained his ankle in the afternoon session.

It's good to hear about Johnson's arm strength. This was such a problem last year due to the fact that his shoulder wasn't 100% and there was essentially no deep threat.
