Shak moving up?
The most noticeable thing in today's practice was quarterback Brian Johnson. It wasn't in the way he was throwing the ball, but in the way he was getting on his teammates. You can read more about it in the web update, but suffice it to say I think he's getting a little tired of having the defense get the best of the offense.

Also noticeable was freshman Sausan Shakerin, the running back out of Alta High who is getting more snaps with Matt Asiata and Darrell Mack ailing. He has also earned them too, and is making the running back situation interesting according to coach Kyle Whittingham. Ray Stowers and Eddie Wide are still next on the depth chart, but "no one is locked in anywhere," Whittingham said. "Shake is doing a nice job. The better you play the more snaps you get."

Backup linebacker Mo Neal was practicing after missing several days because of a sore knee, related to surgery he had in the offseason, and was pointed out as having a good day by Whittingham. "He is a very talented backer," Whittingham said. "I still believe he has a lot of potential."
While he was out, Lisi Leota moved into his backup spot on the depth chart, it could be a battle to watch this week.

Nothing new on Aiona Key's status. There was another receiver watching camp at least. Bryant Ezeja, a 6-foot-3, 185-pound receiver out of St. Mary's H.S. in Stockton, Calif., watched practice and plans to join the team next week when school starts. Teams are limited 105 players in camp, so I suspect several more walk-ons will be showing up in the next couple of days.
Two other walk-ons, Blake Pacheco and Domonique Lewis have left the team. Another, Judd Tolman, a receiver from Skyline H.S. has been added.

Freshman receiver Ryan Lacy, who has been out after hurting his shoulder, is going to have surgery on his shoulders and will be redshirted this season.

Johnson, offensive lineman Robert Conley, Stevenson Sylvester and Brice McCain have been named the team captains. Louie Sakoda is designated as the first specials teams captain.
