Cain earning more reps

Utah freshman quarterback Jordan Wynn had a bit of a virus Monday morning, but illness wasn't the reason he was splitting reps with transfer Terrance Cain, Utah coach Kyle Whittingham said Cain earned them.

"Terrance has had an excellent last two days," Whittingham said. "Like I said, it's a competition, nobody is a starter and it's what you've done lately and Terrance has earned the right to take more snaps. Now they're basically splitting snaps and we'll see how it goes."

Cain struggled with his accuracy earlier in camp but found his receivers extremely well on Monday.

"I'm feeling more comfortable, he said. "I know my assignments and I'm a lot more confident."

Whittingham said the QBs would split reps in Tuesday's scrimmage. Although the scrimmage is important, he cautioned that it wasn't going to be the deciding factor.

As for the rest of Monday morning's session, Whittingham called it a good session.

"Started a little slow and picked up some steam, a good day not our best day," he said.

Receiver DeVonte Christopher and defensive tackles Dave Kruger and Latu Heimuli were singled out for their efforts.

Running back Eddie Wide is hampered by a hamstring pull, but there were no other serious injuries.

This situation is getting very bizarre. The players are becoming very divided on who should be the starter. Two receivers I know personally think it should go 1a. Cain 1b. Louks and a distant 3. Wynn. They also told me that players are getting in certain qb camps as to who should be the starter. This situation could end up getting VERY ugly Whitt continues down this path.

Utefan99-

We all know you are a closet kewg fan! Which receivers do you know personally? NONE! There has been no talk of the team being divided! Louks simply could not cut it, simple as that! Everyone on that team wants to win and wants the person that is the best on the field, doesnt matter if its a freshman or not! Stop posing as a true Ute fan and go back to provo. If you are actually a Utah fan, well i cant wait for Wynn to show you up. We dont need ridiculous negative fans like you.

No, he's not a Ute. He's been posing as a Ute on these comments for a long time. Just ignore him.

So because I know and understand the game, and am critical at times of coaching moves and player decisions it makes me a zoob fan? Wow you are an idiot. You are a moron Andrew Lawrence.
Jefe, you are one to talk. Most people on here are still convinced you are a zoob because any time you start typing, you sound like an ignorant fool.
Playing for the U, albeit a few years ago helps keep me in touch with a good number of current players. I along with others on the team think Wynn will be a good qb one day, he is not ready now to start.
Again morons, just because a fan has a differing opinion than you, does not necessarily mean they are a poser.

Who's to say he is not ready to start?? Im sure Coach Witt does not want to start a freshman unless he feels he is clearly good enough! No coach wants to immediately start a freshman because they know the consequences of what can happen. Your knowledge of the game consists of saying that allegedly some good friends of yours that are receivers for the U do not want Wynn anywhere near the starting spot! I dont care if you have a different opinion, but going after Coach Witt because of this is not the way to go! He has proven that he can move guys to different positions, bring out the best in his players, motivate the team, and WIN! The last game he coached was the SUGAR BOWL! Have faith in the coach that just took us to Utah's 2nd BCS Bowl! I am a moron though, and have no idea about football.

It does sound like you know little about football. I'm sure you understand that you cheer when the red team crosses the thick white line, you cheer. Your theory is to not 2nd guess Coach Whitt. Kyle is a great coach, he has clearly proven that. However, whenever a situation like this arises, it can very easily divide a team. We had a situation like this during my playing days. Luckily, there isn't a grandson of the biggest athletic booster on this team. Ask former players if Lance Rice should have been a starter for us. I think Whitt will do a good job this year. That being said, I know what divides a team and I hope it gets settled quickly.
