Louks open to position change

About the only thing Corbin Louks is certain of right now is that he doesn't know what he is going to do.

Those were his feelings after Friday's afternoon session for the Utes, when virtually all the reps were split between the newly anointed No. 1 QB Jordan Wynn and transfer Terrance Cain.

This morning the news that he wasn't No. 1 was still fresh with Louks and he seemed stung by the decision. By this afternoon, he still wasn't happy (and who wouldn't be?) and said he was going to take a couple days to decide what to do.

His options are to stay where he is and keep battling for the QB spot, consider playing another position or transfer.

"It's a great university and they have a great program and tradition here so I am going to weigh my options and see what is best for me, best for the team," he said.

Louks said he was going to discuss the options with his family and coaches, but did say he would be agreeable to changing positions. He played safety some in high school.

"I think it would be fun to play safety, I played some in high school and I had a blast when I was in so it's one of my options," he said.

As for the QBs, both Wynn and Cain looked their best and Wynn said having a depth chart, even one that isn't set, was easier for him.

"It was a bit stressful having three guys rotating, being in the unknown isn't fun so to have something set is a good feeling," he said.

Wynn threw a beautiful touchdown pass to freshman Luke Matthews. It was so nice, I thought Utah assistant Morgan Scalley was going to pop a neck muscle yelling at his defenders and pointing out the obvious, "Touchdown, touchdown!"

The Utes did get a little bad news with backup running back Junior Fonua tearing his ACL. He wasn't in the mix with the running backs in reality, but was a big contributor on special teams.

So the question of the night is, what do you do if you are Louks? Do you stick it out, see the writing on the wall and realize if you haven't won the QB spot by now you probably aren't going to do so and take another option? What is the at option? Would you transfer? Play another spot for the Utes?

I hope Louks decides to stay and try a different position. He's a good kid who has a ton of athletic ability. This may be a blessing in disguise for him. With his size (and now this decision), it doesn't sound like he had a shot at the NFL as a quarterback. However, with his speed and athletic ability, he may have a shot at a different position. I feel bad for the kid. Sounds like he's worked hard. Keep your head up Corbin...You have a lot going for you.

Louks will transfer, the Utes are DEEP at DB, WR, and RB. The poor guy will be burried on the depth chart at every position he could possibly play. I wouldn't be surprised if coaches would be very open to him transferring to free up a scholarship.

Nudge Corbin and tell him everthing will be OK.

With his speed and size, he might make a really good safety. He has that redshirt year to learn the position.
