With out of conference games at Oregon and San Jose State, most of Utah's road trips are fairly short this year, turns out no one is happier about those short flights than offensive lineman Tony Bergstrom.
The 6-6, 300-pound sophomore hates flying, with a passion. He gets motion sickness that has him reaching for those bags neatly tucked behind the seats more than you want to know.
"It's good to stay off planes," he said. "That trip to Michigan last year was rough."
Learning his dread of flying was one of the many things Bergstrom enlightened us media types with during the Utes' weekly press conference.
He said he is a big homebody in general, planes or no planes involved.
"I didn't go too far for college, I could ride my bike up here, I'm that close," the Skyline High grad said. "I miss my wife when we are away too."
Bergstrom's comments brought a little humor to the day, as did his thoughts on the differences between Terrance Cain and former QB Brian Johnson.
"He is great because we can run the ball more with him," Bergstrom said of Cain. "With Brian, we were so worried about him getting hurt, we wanted to keep him in the pocket, rubbing his joints with a diaper cloth and a little milk of magnesia."
Speaking of injuries, Whittingham said running back Matt Asiata has practiced well this week and believes if all goes well he should be 100 percent in two weeks, after Utah's bye next week.
Whittingham said Tevita Stevens and Walter Watts will continue to rotate at the right guard spot until one separates himself from the other.
While the defense hasn't been as strong as the Utes have wanted, Whittingham said no changes are planned personnel-wise.
"We have a chance to be a pretty good defense," he said. "We aren't there yet right now, but we can be."
As for special teams, Whittingham doesn't plan to change the kicking rotation so Ben Vroman will be used on any long attempts and Joe Phillips will kick short distances.

for an O-lineman, 6'3, 203lbs seems a little small. He looks a lot bigger on the field. I saw him at the season opener and he was still 6'6 and just over 300lbs, so he must have lost is legs at the knees. I hope he's still able to play with that type of injury:)
Shoot, thanks for catching the typo!
No worries - he's my bro, so I noticed the size right away. Thanks for the post though - I live out of state and heard he was on TV, but couldn't find it anywhere.
