RB update and a look at the corners

Greetings from the press box here at Oregon everyone. First things first, running back Matt Asiata is warming up, hopefully for the Utes that is an indication he'll play. The Utes decided to leave freshman running back Sausan Shakerin at home because of a shoulder injury according to Utah sports information and not because of his hand injury.

Senior Ray Stowers, who didn't travel to San Jose State, did come on the trip, but I wouldn't count on him playing much because coach Kyle Whittingham said earlier this season he still has lingering shoulder issues that limit him.

Thoughts on the game: Utah has to take care of the ball (obvious), play better on special teams (obvious) and on defense (very obvious).

The secondary was exposed last week at San Jose State and Whittingham didn't bother to soften his words in being critical of them.

Wednesday he said he expects Oregon to attack that secondary and who wouldn't after the Spartans' success against it.

Utah is sticking with starters R.J. Stanford and Brandon Burton at the corners, basically because they have no one else.

JC transfer Kamaron Yancy still is out with a foot injury, JC transfer Conroy Black isn't on trip according to Utah sports info and Chris Washington, a promising freshman, is out for the season with an injury. Damilyn Tanner, who was a decent player in 2008, left the team before the 2009 season.

All those issues leave the Utes with freshman Ryan Lacy, who was converted to corner from receiver in fall camp and junior Lamar Chapman as the backups.

Let's see if the Ducks attack those guys, I'd be more surprised if they didn't.

Kickoff is almost here....

Stowers doesn't have any lingering shoulder injuries. That's a cop out. Stowers came to the game obviously cause the coach thought he was ready to play. Heard he is kicking ass in practices...has dropped a few lbs and is faster than ever. So what if he red shirted for about two years. He's back. Play him. It was painful to watch this game knowing it could have turned out different. Shame on the OC for not having Stowers in..and KW for not demanding more. If Matt has a hurt shoulder he should of been out since he didn't practice all week...and the game wouldn't have been compensated.
