How 'great' were they?
Spotted on the electronic readerboard at Cottonwood High School: The message "Thank You for 8 Great Years," with a photo of a smiling George W. Bush.

Not everyone would agree the last eight years were so great. Fifty-eight percent of the country think Bush will go down in history as a "below average" or "poor" president.

Kinda makes you wonder if all the right-wing complaints about the public school system don't have some validity....;-)

Apparently missed was the one on the same electronic sign that had a picture of Obama and said "2009, Finally The Year Of Change!" or something to that effect

How blind must some people be that they will not and cannot see the tattered state of today's nation due to President Bush, and mentors Cheney and Rumsfeld, and the degredation of the America we love because of their misguided avarice.
Are people so blind they cannot see the state of economy in ruins and chaos? Do they not really comprehend the abyss of a record national debt that has made us subservient to Communist China? Do they turn a jaundiced eye to the millions left without jobs in a downward spiraling and deteriorating workforce, while the president eats, drinks, and makes merry?
Cannot some people understand the state of dysfunction this inept president and his mentors Cheney and Rumsfeld have brought upon us, leading the USA, this once great and powerful nation, once a harbinger of all that is good and decent to the edge of the precipice? From a point of being the most respected position in the world that all nations wanted to emulate, America has sunk to the depths of being despised for government actions and atrocities such as torture and warmongering because of their insanity?
I am a Purple Heart Vietnam veteran, saddened that America is no longer a light on a hill?

I hope the outgoing president has not dug too deep a hole for Obama to get us out of. We have such a long ways to go.

I hope that people aren't so blinded by hatred that they give Obama (and his democratic party) a free pass.

The democrats aren't innocent. The President is a powerful person, but so is congress, and they've done a horrid job as well (Their approval rating was lower than Bush's prior to the election).

It's going to be very interesting to watch the country now that one party has control of congress and the White House...as much as I'd love to see the "miracle" so many are expecting, I'm thinking it's going to be much closer to the status quo....politicians are just that, politicians first. They don't have anyone but their best interests in mind, what they say in press conferences means nothing.

I do not hate President Bush whatsoever!

I just think he was a poor president, who surrounded himself with neocon, warmongering hawks who were deceitful to him and the people, and got us into a war without reason, with too high a toll to pay. Most retired generals, who know war, and who do not have to answer to this administration, agree that the Iraqi war was not prudent, nor justified. I know war, and there was no reason for this one.

There were no WMDs ... there was no connection with world terrorists responsible for 9/11 whatsoever ... no connection to Osama Bin Laden. Saddam was inprisoned by the US and UN sanctions. He was handcuffed by them, and could do nothing in any way harmful. Saddam said he had destroyed all WMDs, and the UN chief inspector, Hans Blich, agreed ... but Bush called him a liar and sent us into a pre-emptive war ... well, history has shown who was the true liar.

Under the guise of bringing democracy, we have killed many more innocent civilians than did Saddam during his entire reign.
